Giuseppe Maria Desa is traag van begrip. Op aandringen van zijn moeder wordt hij monnik in een franciscanenklooster. Ook in het klooster brengt zijn simpele geest hem regelmatig in moeilijkheden. Uiteindelijk zien de monniken echter dat hij een goed hart heeft.
