Welcome to Rockville is a four-day hard rock and heavy metal music festival.[3] The festival is held annually at the Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida.[4]

History

On Sunday, May 8, 2011, Mother's Day, the first Welcome to Rockville took place at Jacksonville, Florida's Metropolitan Park.[5] Due to city noise regulations, the festival was held from around 11:00 a.m. up until 10:00 p.m.[6] Godsmack headlined, and Juliya Chernetsky hosted the event.[7]

A second festival was held on Sunday, April 29, 2012, which featured Jacksonville, Florida, natives Shinedown to headline the festival along with Korn.[8]

The Welcome to Rockville festival was expanded from a one-day event to a two-day event in 2013, and Jacksonville native band Lynyrd Skynyrd headlined with Alice in Chains.[9] The 2013 festival started a minor controversy about the enforcement of a noise ordinance, which was waived for the festival.[10]

The headline bands of the 2014 festival were Avenged Sevenfold and Korn.[11]

Slipknot and Korn headlined the 2015 festival.[12]

Disturbed and Rob Zombie headlined the festival in 2016.[13]

In 2017, Soundgarden and Def Leppard headlined Welcome to Rockville.[14]

The festival was expanded to three days (Friday–Sunday) in 2018.[15] Ozzy Osbourne, Avenged Sevenfold, and the Foo Fighters were the headline performers.[16]

Welcome to Rockville 2019 was headlined in May by Korn, Rob Zombie, and Tool.[17] In July 2019, Danny Wimmer Presents submitted a press release that stated Welcome to Rockville was moving to Daytona Beach, Florida.[18]

In March 2020, it was announced that the festival would be canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic but would return in 2021.[19]

In 2021, Welcome to Rockville returned for a new week, November 11–14, at its new home in Daytona Beach, Florida. Providing the headline Metallica for two nights, Slipknot and Disturbed.[20] The 10th edition of Welcome to Rockville, which drew a record attendance of 161,000 people, was listed as the biggest rock festival in America in 2021. Additionally, 1.2 million viewers live-streamed select performances on Twitch. Danny Wimmer Presents announced that Welcome to Rockville would be returning in May 2022.[21]

Welcome to Rockville 2022 was held on May 19–22. Set to headline were Kiss, Korn, Guns N' Roses, and the Foo Fighters.[22] Kiss took the stage on Thursday, while severe weather forced Korn and Guns N' Roses, among other acts, to cancel their shows on Friday and Saturday.[23] Due to the passing of drummer Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters had to cancel their performance; Nine Inch Nails took their place and played on Sunday.[24]

The 2023 edition of Welcome to Rockville took place over four days in May 2023, headlined by Slipknot, Avenged Sevenfold, Pantera, and Tool.[25]

The 13th installment of Welcome to Rockville was headlined by Mötley Crüe, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters, and Slipknot in 2024.[26]
