Serow (Persian: سرو)[a] is a city in, and the capital of, Sumay-ye Beradust District of Urmia County, West Azerbaijan province, Iran.[4]

Demographics

Language and ethnicity

The people of Serow are Kurds and Azerbaijanis who speak the Kurmanji Kurdish and Azeri Turkish language. Their religion is Sunni Islam.[5][6]

Population

At the time of the 2006 National Census, the city's population was 1,508 in 279 households.[7] The following census in 2011 counted 1,530 people in 331 households.[8] The 2016 census measured the population of the city as 1,800 people in 469 households.[2]

Geography

Situated on the border with Turkey, it has a border crossing linking it with the Turkish town of Esendere.[9]
